Rainwater Collection

In an effort to begin to offset the damage we’ve done to the environment with the thousands of desposable diapers we’ve put into landfils, we installed a rainwater collection system to use to water our garden, and possibly our flowers, if the hose is long enough. We bought the kit from our local Home Depot store, and installed it in less than a half an hour. It was easier to install than I thought it would be.

We collect rain water too. The plants love it (they’re not fond of chlorine) and it saves money. You’ll soon find that one barrel isn’t enough. I have 7-55 gallon barrels and I’m thinking I need to add 5-7 more and hook in more gutters, I’m always running out of rain water!

My husband has been going on and on about this. Was it in the paper or something? Why all the hype?

These systems are showing up everywhere. It’s the latest “going green” craze. It’s better for the plants because of the lack of chemicals. It’s also good for the bank account since it lowers your water bill.

Ahhh-makes sense now. Non-chlorine. Hope you don’t mind but I had to share this post with the husband as he’s been telling me about it. I think he will get some great ideas with what you’ve done.
